Despite my undying love for punk rock and acoustic music, there’s still a apart of me that adores hip-hop in its purest form. The deeper, more ‘real’, kind of hip-hop, the stuff that was pioneered by Jurassic 5 and A Tribe Called Quest, appears to be almost non-existent (please correct me if I’m wrong) in more modern releases. Which is why it’s always good to hear something like this. Lupe Fiasco’s ‘Lamborghini Angels’ is one such track. Taken from his forthcoming album ‘Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1′, it’s good to see the Lupe dealing with deeper subject matter after having “nothing to do” with his last release. The original ‘Food & Liquor’ is one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time and, alongside ‘Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)’ , this feels like a return to that and, ultimately, a return to form for the Chicago-born rapper.
