Neil Armstrong, First Man on Moon, Dies at 82

Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon, died Saturday at the age of 82, according to his family. Armstrong died after complications from the cardiovascular surgery he received in early August, the family statement said. He lived in Cincinnati. Armstrong was commander of the Apollo 11 mission, which touched down on the surface of the moon on July 20, 1969. As the world watched in a live broadcast, Armstrong's first words were brief but epic: "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind." Read his obituary in the New York Times here .
