Kindle Fire Jelly Bean Update: Download and Guide On Flashing ROM

Google’s latest mobile OS can now run on Kindle Fire. Developer Hashcode has found a way to port Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to run on Amazon’s tablet. Initially, the Amazon Kindle Fire features a custom version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread which can run apps and can access valuable digital media from its content store. Interestingly, customers have been hacking Amazon’s tablet since its release and enable it to run a host of software features which include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich-based CyanogenMod9, CyanogenMod7, and MIUI. Kindle Fire uses the similar 7-inch tablet user interface found in Google Nexus 7. This creates a user interface hybrid between the tablet and the Android 4.0 smartphone. The home screen is fixed in a portrait mode while the notification bar is moved from the bottom to the top of the screen. To get things started, you have to get your device rooted and equipped with custom recovery. From the xda-developers forum, you can download and run the latest version of the Kindle Fire Utility. However, this unofficial update is still a work-in-progress. Customers should take note that hardware video acceleration is not supported yet and WiFi is still in an unstable condition. On the positive side, customers who already have the Kindle Fire can get a free software update. This is still possible even if the update is not particularly supported by Amazon.
