Wimbledon 2012: Serena Williams Goes For 5
Source: www.sbnation.com - Saturday, July 07, 2012
Serena Williams will play in the women's Wimbledon final Saturday with the opportunity to make a little history. Saturday at the All England Club, Serena Williams will play in her seventh Wimbledon final with the opportunity to win her fifth title there. A Grand Slam final is nothing new to Williams, who with Saturday's appearance will have made 18 Grand Slam singles finals. She has won 13 Grand Slam singles titles in her career, and a win on Saturday would make her the first woman of at least age 30 to win a major tournament since Martina Navratilova won the Wimbledon title in 1990 . Williams lost her last appearance in a Grand Slam final, the 2011 US Open, but has won five of her last six including her last two Wimbledon singles final appearances. If Williams wins her 14th Grand Slam singles title on Saturday, she would be 10 behind Margaret Court for the most in history. A fifth Wimbledon singles title would tie her for the seventh-most in history and also tie her with her sister, Venus Williams. A full Wimbledon 2012 scoreboard can be found at SI.com .
